You cannot seriously believe that using palm oil is a way to cut down on carbon emissions! Around 90% of the global supply is from Indonesia and Malaysia, and this has come at a tremendous cost. The forests of Borneo and Sumatra are being burned to the ground-- releasing so much carbon into the atmosphere that Indonesia now ranks only behind China and US in carbon emissions-- and it is barely industrialized. Palm oil biodiesel will NEVER make up for the carbon lost from deforestation-- and to pretend otherwise is shameful and wrong.
The UNEP estimates that the forests of Indonesia are being cleared at a rate of 6 football fields per minute every minute of every day-- and nearly all of this is in order to convert the land into oil palm plantations.
The palm oil industry is guilty of the most heinous ecological atrocities imaginable, including the systematic genocide of orangutans. The forests of Borneo and Sumatra are the only place where these gentle, intelligent creatures live, and the cultivation of palm oil has directly led to the brutal deaths of thousands of individuals as the industry has expanded into previously undisturbed areas of rainforest.
"GREEN" should be equal to "PLANET FREINDLY". This includes sustainability, environmentally-friendly, animal-friendly, people-friendly.
The palm oil industry is HORRIBLY corrupt. Native (indeginious) peoples and wildlife do not stand a chance.
Supporting rainforest deforestation and the brutal slaughter (and/or enslavement) of defenseless wildlife is a disgrace...a human disgrace.
Nothing is safe from us and our desire for 'stuff'. Our grotesque (over) CONSUMPION is steadily destroying us.
Human beings are losing the spiritual connectivity to nature. This eventually lowers ethical standards until we are morally bankrupt. Even our closest biological relatives (the other Great Apes) are not safe from our greed. If we are not going to protect them, then WHAT ARE WE GOING TO SAVE?
Stop the loss of moral integrity... STOP KILLING OUR PLANET.
Deforestation of rainforests can not be ethically justified. Loss of these fragile ecosystems CAN NOT be replaced.
Please end the pillage and plunder of Earth's treasures!
